From the Daily Breeze:
A six-month, multiagency-crackdown on the Venice Shoreline Crips and V-13 gang members resulted in 19 arrests on suspicion of drug and gun charges, but 33 suspects are still being sought, law enforcement officials announced Tuesday.
The City Attorney’s Office issued eviction notices to 13 residents of the Oakwood area of Venice and filed a motion to close a home at 646 Broadway Ave. that was the site of drug sales, City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo said.
Officials with the federal Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted the LAPD and City Attorney’s Office in the investigation.
“Today’s collaborative effort involving our partners with the ATF and the City Attorney’s Office sends a clear message that law enforcement will not stand idly by while gang members terrorize our neighborhoods,” said Deputy Chief Kenny Garner, LAPD West Bureau Commanding Officer.
“These communities belong to the people who reside in them, not those whose only intent is to cause disruption.”
My great aunt actually lives in this area and said that the police made some arrest by house, which were actually occupied by grandparents and parents of those being arrested. I am in a way divided about this issue because they are really taking out a few small time dealers and users, not the one’s who supply the drugs to the area. But I have seen hand to hand deals in person and I don’t think that this should be going on in my town.
Feel free to share your thoughts about this issue. . .
Peanut Butter Wolf :: Badd Santa: A Stones Throw Records Xmas
by Dominic McDonald
Peanut Butter Wolf knows when you are sleeping and knows when you’re awake, he also knows how to make bad ass concept albums for goodness sake. Badd Santa: A Stones Throw Records Xmas is a compilation of songs inspired by the holiday season. The extra D might just be for “defiantly not your grandmother’s Christmas record” because it’s filled with contemporary artists that would probably just sound like some drunk on eggnog banging on pots and pans to Grandmama. Instead of a Christmas Carol remake, you’ll get a dose of trance-hop, Prince inspired “This Christmas Girl” by James Pants. Still want a remake? How about remakes of LL Cool J’s “Rock the Bells”? Like Hand Call Christmas’s “My Christmas Bells.” You’ll want to put a boom box on your wish list to play songs like “Santa’s Party Rap,” “Scoopy Rap,” and “Funky Fresh Christmas.” Get some ‘ole time booty shaking at your next Christmas party with “What I want for Christmas” by the 69 Boyz and Quad City DJ’s. If you’re concerned with your parent’s approval, then there’s a track from the late James Brown, “Go Power At Christmas Time” and an additionally soulful “Santa’s got a bag of Soul” by Soul Saints to make that wagging index finger point to the sky in rhythm. Even Kwanzaa gets some love with Georgia Anne Muldrow’s “The Kwanzaa Song.” Wolf didn’t go as far as making “the twelve tracks of Christmas” seeing as this album has 14, but that’s kind of like 12 with two bonus songs.
